He described the conversation with Sheinbaum as “very friendly” and stressed that the deployment of 10,000 Mexican soldiers would be crucial in combating the ongoing crisis at the border. The soldiers will focus on preventing the flow of fentanyl and illegal migrants into the United States, marking a significant step forward in U.S.-Mexico cooperation.

As part of the agreement, the two leaders also agreed to pause the tariffs for a month, during which time U.S. officials, including Secretary of State Marco Rubio, Secretary of Treasury Scott Bessent, and Secretary of Commerce Howard Lutnick, will lead talks with their Mexican counterparts. Trump expressed hope that these discussions would lead to a fair and mutually beneficial trade deal between the two nations.
