Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky issued a blistering rebuke of the Biden administration on Sunday, condemning what he described as America’s dangerous silence in the face of one of Russia’s most brutal attacks on Kyiv to date.
Posting on X (formerly Twitter), Zelensky warned that Western inaction is sending the wrong message to Vladimir Putin — and putting innocent lives at risk.
“The world may rest on weekends, but war does not. America’s silence only encourages Putin,” Zelensky declared.
According to The New York Times, the weekend assault was among the largest since the war began, with over 370 drones and missiles launched by Russian forces. At least 12 civilians were killed, and dozens more were injured in the coordinated barrage.
Zelensky didn’t mince words, stressing that only strong U.S. leadership—the kind seen during President Trump’s administration—can bring the violence to a halt.
“The Russian economy is fragile. But without real pressure from the United States and its allies, this brutality won’t stop,” he wrote. “Sanctions help—but determination matters more. Putin must be forced to think about ending the war, not launching missiles.”
Zelensky’s comments come just days after former President Donald Trump spoke with Putin in what Trump described as an “excellent” conversation marked by “good tone and spirit.” While Trump emphasized diplomacy, critics within the mainstream media accused him of being too lenient—though many conservatives argue that Trump’s firm posture kept Putin in check for four years.
Biden’s Weakness on Full Display?
Zelensky’s public frustration has reignited debate in Washington over President Biden’s handling of the Russia-Ukraine conflict. Critics say Biden’s foreign policy has been marked by hesitation, confusion, and a lack of real deterrence—emboldening hostile powers from Moscow to Beijing.
In contrast, many conservatives credit the Trump administration’s peace-through-strength doctrine with maintaining global stability and avoiding full-scale conflicts.
America’s Role: Leading or Retreating?
As the world watches the escalating violence in Ukraine, Zelensky’s plea serves as a stark warning. Without bold action and clear resolve from Washington, authoritarian regimes like Putin’s will only grow more aggressive.
“This war can be stopped,” Zelensky concluded. “But only if the United States and its allies act with strength—not silence.”
