Military Authority Expanded Under President Trump’s Bold Border Security Plan
In a decisive move to restore control over America’s southern border, President Donald J. Trump has authorized U.S. military forces to search and temporarily detain illegal migrants within a newly established national defense zone in New Mexico—marking one of the strongest immigration enforcement actions in modern history.
This comes as part of the Trump administration’s broader plan to seal the border, crack down on illegal immigration, and stop the flow of drugs, crime, and human trafficking flooding into U.S. communities.
New National Defense Area Gives Military Hands-On Authority
U.S. Northern Command confirmed that troops with Joint Task Force–Southern Border are now fully authorized to operate inside the New Mexico National Defense Area, a strategic zone that has been reclassified under the command of Fort Huachuca, Arizona.
Thanks to President Trump’s April 11 directive, a 60-foot-wide stretch of land once managed by the Department of the Interior is now under direct military control. This bold move shifts critical resources into the hands of those defending our borders—not bureaucrats in Washington.
Key authorities granted include:
- Detaining and searching individuals suspected of illegal entry
- Providing medical assistance to migrants in distress
- Establishing barriers, fences, and security signage
- Conducting air and ground surveillance operations
Trump Administration Transfers Over 100,000 Acres to Defense Department
Last week, the Department of the Interior announced the transfer of nearly 110,000 acres of federal land to the U.S. Army. This change will support Border Patrol and military operations for at least the next three years.
General Gregory Guillot, commander of U.S. Northern Command, emphasized the urgency:
“Our mission is clear—identify, monitor, and detain those who enter the New Mexico National Defense Area illegally and turn them over to Customs and Border Protection.”
Border Enforcement Expansion Coming to Texas
White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt confirmed that the crackdown won’t stop in New Mexico:
“This national defense zone spans 170 miles in New Mexico. In the coming weeks, President Trump will expand it by an additional 90 miles across Texas.”
Restoring Law and Order Amid Border Crisis
While critics claim the military should avoid civilian involvement, the facts on the ground paint a different picture. Communities across the southern border have been overwhelmed by surging illegal crossings, cartel violence, and drug trafficking.
President Trump’s leadership is finally delivering real border security—with boots on the ground, not just empty promises.
