President Donald J. Trump has once again stepped up to protect our communities and restore law and order with a bold new executive order aimed at tackling America’s growing homeless crisis.
The policy, titled “Ending Vagrancy and Restoring Order,” directs Attorney General Pam Bondi to dismantle decades of failed liberal policies that have allowed vagrancy, public drug use, and lawlessness to overrun once-thriving neighborhoods.
Putting Public Safety and Families First
For years, cities across America have been forced to tolerate dangerous encampments, open-air drug markets, and streets lined with tents — all due to activist judges and federal restrictions. President Trump’s order changes that.
Under the new directive:
- Local and state officials will regain the power to remove homeless individuals from public spaces and place them into treatment centers, rehabilitation programs, or temporary housing.
- Federal funding will be redirected to prioritize mental health services, addiction recovery programs, and secure shelter facilities.
- Cities that enforce bans on urban camping, squatting, and drug use will be rewarded with increased federal support.
- Sex offenders will be prohibited from being housed near or with children, and shelters will be allowed to offer women-and-children-only programs for added protection.
This is common-sense policy that puts American families first — not criminals and addicts.
A Compassionate Approach That Works
In 2024, the Department of Housing and Urban Development reported over 771,000 homeless Americans, including nearly 168,000 who are chronically homeless. Many suffer from addiction, untreated mental illness, or both — and have been left to rot under previous administrations.
Now, with President Trump’s leadership, the government is focused on restoring order and providing real help — not enabling destruction.
According to White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt, the president is “delivering on his promise to Make America Safe Again by ending the lawless spread of urban homelessness and redirecting resources to where they’re needed most — recovery and safety.”
Trump’s Broader Vision for Safer Streets
This executive order is just one piece of President Trump’s broader strategy to reclaim American cities from crime and chaos:
- In March, Trump ordered the National Park Service to clean up federal lands and remove homeless encampments from national parks and monuments, including in Washington, D.C.
- In May, he created the National Center for Warrior Independence, offering veterans suffering from homelessness a place to receive healthcare, benefits, and support services they’ve earned.
Backed by the Supreme Court
President Trump’s policy is reinforced by a landmark 6-3 Supreme Court ruling that upheld local laws in Grants Pass, Oregon, banning homeless encampments on public land. The Court rightly determined that such laws do not violate the Constitution.
Justices Sotomayor, Kagan, and Jackson dissented, but the rule of law prevailed — another win for American communities.
Restoring Dignity, Rebuilding Communities
“By removing criminals from our streets and investing in real solutions like substance abuse treatment and mental health care, President Trump is making our neighborhoods safer and more livable once again,” said Leavitt.
This is leadership with results — not empty words. While Democrats coddle criminals and ignore skyrocketing homelessness, President Trump is delivering bold action to protect American citizens, restore public safety, and rebuild our great nation.
