Trump Picks New Fight With Russia

President Donald Trump issued a stern warning to Russia on Friday, promising “large-scale” sanctions and tariffs until a peace deal is reached with Ukraine. In a post on Truth Social, Trump emphasized the need for swift action to end the ongoing conflict. “Given the fact that Russia is relentlessly pounding Ukraine on the battlefield, I am strongly considering imposing large-scale banking sanctions, tariffs, and additional sanctions on Russia until a ceasefire and a final settlement agreement for peace is in place,” Trump wrote. He further urged both Russia and Ukraine to return to the negotiating table immediately before the situation escalates further.

Trump’s remarks followed his decision to suspend all military aid and intelligence-sharing with Ukraine earlier this week after a tense meeting with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy in the Oval Office. As tensions remain high, Russia launched another major attack on Ukraine overnight, targeting critical energy and gas infrastructure with a combination of missiles and drones. Ukrainian officials reported that Russia unleashed 261 missile and drone strikes, including the use of Mirage-2000 jets and F-16 fighter planes.

Despite these aggressive actions, Ukrainian President Zelenskyy called for diplomatic talks with the U.S. next week to find a path toward peace. He called for an immediate ceasefire and stronger international pressure on Russia to end its attacks, particularly on civilian infrastructure. In the latest assault, at least 10 people, including a child, were injured, as Russian forces targeted Ukraine’s power grid, leaving citizens without electricity and heat in freezing temperatures.

Trump’s approach emphasizes a strong stance on deterring Russia’s aggression while pushing for peace. The Republican leader’s unwavering commitment to national security and his call for a tough, economic response could resonate with those who believe America should take a hard line against foreign threats.
