Attorney General Pam Bondi has confirmed that the Department of Justice has launched a wide-ranging review into alleged political abuses within the federal government that took place during the Obama and Biden years—actions she says may amount to an ongoing criminal conspiracy.
Speaking with Just the News, Bondi said she formally instructed federal prosecutors to examine what she described as a coordinated effort to use government institutions against political opponents, particularly Donald Trump and his supporters.
According to Bondi, the alleged misconduct involved selective enforcement of federal law—targeting conservatives while protecting prominent Democrats—raising serious concerns about election integrity and equal justice under the law.
She said the activity spanned multiple election cycles under former Presidents Barack Obama and Joe Biden, leaving what she described as long-lasting damage to public trust in federal law enforcement.
FBI Director Kash Patel has previously stated that the Russia investigation tied to the 2016 election was politically motivated. Patel has also said the FBI and DOJ are now reviewing past actions to determine whether law enforcement powers were misused for political purposes.
Journalist John Solomon explained that investigators are reportedly examining the issue through a criminal-conspiracy lens. Under federal law, conspiracy cases are treated as ongoing offenses, which can extend timelines for accountability—similar to how organized crime investigations are handled.
“At my direction, U.S. attorneys and federal agents nationwide are actively examining instances of alleged government weaponization,” Bondi said. “This represents a stain on our country that spans nearly a decade.”
Bondi also highlighted the recent release of thousands of documents to Congress, calling it an unprecedented step toward transparency. She said the materials suggest a troubling pattern in which figures such as Hunter Biden and Hillary Clinton were treated differently than conservative Americans facing federal scrutiny.
According to Bondi, some enforcement actions—including high-profile search warrants—were carried out despite internal objections from law enforcement officials who reportedly believed the measures were excessive. She contrasted those actions with what she described as federal inaction on issues such as violent crime and border security.
“This Department of Justice takes the protection of civil liberties seriously,” Bondi said. “That means preventing election interference, restoring public confidence, and holding any bad actors accountable—regardless of their status or political influence.”
The report noted that a significant portion of the review is centered in Florida, where President Trump’s residence was searched in 2022—an event that energized millions of voters and intensified calls for reform within federal institutions.
