President Donald Trump is once again pushing back against renewed media speculation surrounding his health, making it clear that routine medical care is being twisted into a misleading political narrative.
In an interview with The Wall Street Journal, President Trump addressed reports about his visit to Walter Reed National Military Medical Center, explaining that he received a CT scan, not an MRI, during a follow-up physical last fall.
The president, now 79, said the scan was precautionary and standard for someone his age — but quickly became “ammunition” for critics eager to raise questions where none exist.
“The fact that I took it made people say, ‘Oh gee, is something wrong?’” Trump said. “Well, nothing’s wrong.”
Trump emphasized that the imaging was not an MRI, clarifying that it was a basic scan ordered as part of routine executive health monitoring.
Earlier reports had fueled speculation after Trump mentioned undergoing imaging during his Walter Reed visit. At the time, he described the results as “perfect,” though the lack of detailed explanation allowed critics to fill the void with conjecture.
That speculation was later addressed directly by Trump’s physician, Sean Barbabella, who released a formal medical memo confirming the imaging was standard medical practice for men in Trump’s age group.
Barbabella stated that cardiovascular and abdominal scans are commonly recommended for comprehensive evaluations and stressed that all results came back completely normal.
“The president is in excellent overall health,” Barbabella said, adding that Trump’s metabolic and cardiovascular markers suggest a biological age more than a decade younger than his actual age.
In a follow-up statement responding to the Journal interview, Barbabella explained that White House medical staff recommended a secondary evaluation purely to ensure continued optimal health. Trump agreed, and consultants performed a CT scan to rule out any potential cardiovascular issues.
“The advanced imaging revealed absolutely no abnormalities,” Barbabella said.
Despite repeated medical confirmations, Trump continues to face heightened scrutiny over his age — a topic that dominated the 2024 election cycle and became especially prominent following serious concerns surrounding Joe Biden after his widely criticized debate performance.
Unlike Biden, the Trump White House has emphasized openness. Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt said the president has consistently been transparent about his medical evaluations.
“President Trump has nothing to hide,” Leavitt said. “He is the most open and transparent president in modern history — unlike Joe Biden, who avoided the press and misled Americans about his clear physical and mental decline.”
Leavitt also confirmed that advanced imaging had always been disclosed and that the White House stands firmly behind the medical assessments.
While critics continue to speculate, Trump has repeatedly stated that he feels strong, remains fully engaged in the presidency, and will not allow routine health checkups to be distorted into political attacks.
