California Governor Gavin Newsom is once again making headlines—not for leading, but for lashing out at President Donald Trump after the commander-in-chief made the historic decision to federalize the California National Guard for the first time in over 60 years.
During a heated interview on Fox 11 Los Angeles, Newsom condemned President Trump’s move to restore law and order amid escalating riots and violent protests across Southern California. The governor accused Trump of acting like a “dictator” and even claimed he’s “trying to start a civil war”—an outrageous statement that many conservatives see as political theater in the face of real national crisis.
“He’s not for peace—he’s here for war,” Newsom ranted. “He’s nationalizing the Guard. That’s authoritarianism, plain and simple.”
Left-Wing Hypocrisy on Full Display
Newsom also took aim at Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem, referring to her 2024 criticism of Joe Biden’s consideration to federalize the National Guard. But the comparison falls flat. Biden wanted control during peaceful times—Trump is responding to real violence threatening families, small businesses, and federal agents.
“Where is Kristi Noem now? Where is Sean Hannity?” Newsom asked rhetorically, ignoring the fact that law enforcement and innocent civilians are under siege in his own state.
The truth is hard to deny—Democrat leaders demand “states’ rights” when it suits them, but when the nation needs protection, they vilify those who take action.
Chaos in the Streets—And Trump Steps In
Fox anchor Elex Michaelson didn’t let Newsom off the hook. He pressed the governor about the violent agitators obstructing ICE agents in downtown L.A.
“They should be arrested,” Newsom admitted, but then quickly pivoted, blaming Trump: “This is Donald Trump’s mess… his team created these conditions.”
Despite his words, the facts are clear. Riots, arson, and assaults on law enforcement surged in Los Angeles long before the National Guard arrived. President Trump had already praised the Guard’s deployment, determined to prevent another night of destruction and chaos.
Trump Acts, Democrats Blame
Newsom’s response to the growing unrest is all too familiar: blame President Trump, defend lawless behavior, and ignore the safety of the law-abiding majority. While buildings burned and businesses were looted, Trump stood firm, delivering a clear message: America will not be overrun by violent mobs.
Michaelson even noted the contradiction in Newsom’s tone, referencing Martin Luther King Jr.’s call for peaceful protest. But Newsom continued his political grandstanding, calling rioters “idiots,” yet still managing to blame Trump supporters.
“Just because we don’t like Trump doesn’t mean people get to hurt law enforcement,” Newsom said—before doubling down on his attacks against the administration.
Leadership in a Time of Crisis
As the dust settles, one truth remains: President Donald Trump acted decisively, while Gavin Newsom ranted on television. The American people—especially those who value law, order, and national security—see through the noise.
The left may talk about “democracy,” but when the rule of law is tested, only strong leadership can restore peace. President Trump just proved once again that he’s willing to do what it takes to defend this country.
