MAGA Celebrates McConnell’s Resignation

Amidst the recent flurry of changes within the Republican Party, Representative Matt Gaetz of Florida expressed satisfaction at Senate Republican Leader Mitch McConnell’s decision to step down from his leadership position, viewing it as a significant shift in the party’s landscape.

Gaetz noted the departures of McConnell, current Republican National Committee Chair Ronna McDaniel, and former House Speaker Kevin McCarthy as emblematic of these changes. McConnell’s announcement of stepping down from his leadership role was followed by McDaniel’s decision to resign on March 8, while McCarthy had been ousted from the Speakership in October of the previous year, largely due to efforts spearheaded by Gaetz himself.

In a post on X, Gaetz underscored the significance of these developments, declaring, “We’ve now 86’d: McCarthy, McDaniel, McConnell.” He expressed optimism for the future of the Republican Party, believing that their departure would pave the way for improvement.

Gaetz’s satisfaction with the reshuffle extended particularly towards McCarthy, with whom he has had a strained relationship, citing grievances over broken promises. This animosity appears to persist despite McCarthy’s departure from Congress.

Gaetz’s reaction to the recent events echoes his response following the 2022 midterms, where the anticipated “red wave” failed to materialize, leaving the Republican Party without the significant advantage they had hoped for. In a similar vein, Gaetz took to mocking the departing leaders, coining the term “McCarthy, McConnell, McDaniel McFailure.”

In essence, Gaetz’s sentiments reflect a broader sentiment within the Republican Party, suggesting a desire for change and a belief that the departure of longstanding leaders could herald a new era of progress and success.
