How Trump Is Preparing For The Biden Debate

Former President Donald Trump is taking a unique approach to his upcoming debate with President Biden, eschewing traditional preparation methods in favor of in-depth policy discussions with close advisers and allies. Trump’s campaign spokesperson, Danielle Alvarez, revealed that the former president has opted out of mock debates and practice Q&A sessions typically used to prepare candidates for such high-stakes events. Alvarez emphasized that Trump believes he doesn’t require extensive rehearsing due to his regular engagement in tough interviews and demanding campaign schedule.

In contrast to Trump’s laid-back strategy, President Biden has been undergoing rigorous preparation at Camp David, where he’s been secluded since June 20. Biden’s team has set up elaborate simulations, including a replica CNN studio, complete with spotlights and production equipment, to mimic the debate environment. A cadre of more than a dozen allies and advisers are reportedly drilling Biden on various issues and strategies, replicating scenarios he might face during the debate.

Trump’s approach includes engaging in policy discussions with prominent figures such as Senators JD Vance and Marco Rubio, former officials like Stephen Miller and Kellyanne Conway, and former acting Director of National Intelligence Ric Grenell. These sessions are aimed at refining his understanding of key issues and strategies ahead of the debate.

The debate, scheduled for Thursday night, will be moderated by CNN’s Jake Tapper and Dana Bash. Trump has expressed concerns about potential bias from the moderators, citing their previous critical remarks about him. Additionally, he has raised questions about Biden’s preparedness, suggesting the incumbent might be relying on undisclosed aids or pharmaceutical assistance to maintain performance.

Reflecting on his previous debates with Biden in 2020, Trump acknowledged varying his approach between the two encounters and indicated a more tempered strategy for this upcoming event. He noted the challenges posed by the debate format, including the absence of a live audience to gauge responses.

Overall, Trump’s decision to focus on policy discussions over traditional debate prep highlights his confidence in his experience and understanding of key issues. In contrast, Biden’s intensive preparation underscores his team’s meticulous approach to ensure the president is well-equipped for the debate. As the event approaches, all eyes will be on how each candidate performs under the spotlight of this highly anticipated showdown.
