The liberal press has once again taken aim at President Donald Trump — this time for daring to call out a misleading Canadian ad that used Ronald Reagan’s image to undermine his trade policies.
The Wall Street Journal, once a pillar of balanced reporting, ran an editorial accusing Trump of throwing a “tantrum” after Ontario’s government aired a Reagan-themed spot criticizing tariffs. But Trump saw through the spin, calling out what he described as a “fake” and “AI-doctored” commercial.
Trump Calls Out Canada’s Deception
The ad used 1987 footage of Reagan denouncing “protectionism,” trying to make it appear that Reagan would have opposed Trump’s America-First trade stance.
“They rigged the commercial,” Trump told reporters. “They falsely claimed Ronald Reagan opposed tariffs when in reality, he supported them. It looked like some kind of AI trick. Canada was caught red-handed.”
Trump followed up with a fiery Truth Social post, labeling the ad “fraudulent” and announcing a 10 percent tariff increase on Canadian imports as a direct response.
“Ronald Reagan LOVED tariffs for purposes of National Security and the Economy,” he wrote.
Wall Street Journal Defends Ottawa
Rather than question Canada’s tactics, the Journal scolded Trump, claiming he acted “like a king” and imposed tariffs “on a whim.” The paper mocked Trump for invoking Reagan and insisted that the 40th president was a “free trader” who opposed tariffs.
The editorial concluded that Reagan “knew tariffs are taxes,” suggesting Trump’s policies “burden manufacturers.” But that version of history conveniently ignores Reagan’s willingness to use tariffs when America’s economic strength and security were threatened.
Media Bias on Full Display
Once again, the establishment media has shown its hand — attacking Trump for defending U.S. interests while giving Canada and globalists a free pass.
Reagan believed in free trade that was fair, not one-sided deals that hollowed out American jobs. Trump’s tariff strategy follows that same logic: defend U.S. industry, secure supply chains, and stop foreign manipulation.
But to the Wall Street Journal and its Beltway friends, standing up for American workers is “protectionism.” Letting foreign governments distort our history? That’s apparently “free trade.”
Bottom Line
President Trump defended Reagan’s true legacy and called out Canada’s deception, while the media once again sided with foreign interests. The divide couldn’t be clearer — Trump stands with American workers, and the press stands with anyone who attacks him.
