Trump Steps Up Again As Kamala Hides

Former President Donald Trump and Georgia Governor Brian Kemp made a significant joint appearance on Friday, putting aside past tensions to address the devastation caused by Hurricane Helene in the Peach State. Their visit to Evans allowed them to meet with local officials and families affected by the storm, showcasing a united front during a time of crisis.

As they toured the damage, Trump praised Kemp’s leadership. “Your governor is doing a fantastic job,” Trump stated, standing near a collection of supplies for those in need. This display of solidarity is particularly noteworthy given their rocky history. Despite previous criticisms, Trump emphasized a positive relationship with Kemp, declaring it “great” and asserting that they’ve consistently worked well together.

This reconciliation is vital for Republicans as Georgia is crucial for upcoming elections. Trump narrowly lost the state in 2020, and current polls suggest a tight race against Vice President Kamala Harris. Following the 2020 election, Trump had pressured Kemp and Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger to contest the results, even backing a primary challenger against Kemp in 2022. However, Kemp’s decisive victory in that election demonstrated his continued support among Georgia voters.

During the visit, Kemp reported that at least 33 lives were lost due to the hurricane and that the storm severely impacted local agriculture. Trump highlighted efforts to restore communications in hard-hit areas, crediting business leaders like Elon Musk and Larry Ellison for their support.

Trump also criticized the Biden administration’s response to the disaster, echoing a growing concern among Republicans regarding federal disaster relief allocation. Meanwhile, Kemp acknowledged the federal assistance, indicating a more collaborative approach than Trump suggested.

This visit underscores the importance of unity within the Republican Party as they prepare for the challenges ahead in Georgia. The stakes are high, and leaders like Trump and Kemp must demonstrate that they can work together for the benefit of their constituents.
