Late-night host Stephen Colbert is back to doing what he does best—taking another cheap shot at President Donald Trump. As the president’s strong health report dominated headlines this week, Colbert used his CBS platform to mock Trump’s medical evaluation and push the tired narrative that the commander-in-chief should “retire.”
The comments came after the White House released the results of Trump’s MRI from October. According to presidential physician Dr. Sean Barbabella, the scan was simply part of a routine evaluation, adding that “men in his age group benefit from a thorough review of cardiovascular and abdominal health.” Dr. Barbabella emphasized that President Trump remains in “excellent health”—welcome news to supporters who have watched him work nonstop, often logging longer days than men half his age.
But instead of acknowledging the facts, Colbert delivered another late-night insult. After pretending to accept the doctor’s findings, he snarked, “Men in his age group also benefit from retiring,” before adding, “So can we write that prescription next?”
For many viewers, it was yet another example of how late-night comedy has shifted from entertainment to predictable anti-Trump commentary.
Colbert’s jab followed a political stunt by Minnesota Governor Tim Walz, who tried to ignite controversy by pressuring Trump to release the MRI results. Walz’s challenge came after Trump called him out in a Thanksgiving Truth Social post—a moment that set the political media buzzing.
The White House confirmed that the MRI was part of Trump’s routine yearly checkup, even though it occurred just six months after his previous physical. Officials said the timing reflected an abundance of caution, not concern, given the president’s demanding schedule and ongoing leadership responsibilities.
Meanwhile, the administration also dismissed a New York Times report claiming Trump’s stamina was slipping, calling it another manufactured attack aimed at undermining the president’s credibility as he continues steering the country through major economic, border, and foreign-policy challenges.
For conservatives, the pattern is unmistakable: while comedians and liberal politicians take cheap shots, President Trump keeps working long hours, delivering results, and proving the critics wrong—again.
