House Speaker Mike Johnson, R-La., has harshly criticized the Biden administration for its silence regarding a controversial segment from the Olympics opening ceremony, which featured drag queens performing a reenactment of the Last Supper with Jesus and his disciples. Johnson expressed his frustration in a post on X, formerly known as Twitter, stating, “The White House has had numerous opportunities to denounce the Olympics’ disgraceful portrayal of the Last Supper, yet they refuse to take a stand. Their inaction should be viewed as tacit approval. The over 200 million Christians in America should be aware of this.”
During a press briefing on Tuesday, White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre deflected questions about President Biden’s perspective on the performance. When asked to comment, Jean-Pierre responded with a shrug and a smile, “I don’t have anything. I appreciate the question, but I just don’t have anything to share.”
As reporters pointed out the offense taken by many Christians, Jean-Pierre continued to evade the issue, laughing and stating, “I just answered your question. I don’t have anything else to add.” This evasive response has left many questioning the President’s stance on the matter, particularly given his professed Catholic faith.
First Lady Jill Biden, while in Paris, described the opening ceremony as “spectacular” but did not specifically address the drag queen skit. Both President Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris’ offices did not respond to Fox News Digital’s inquiries regarding the backlash from the religious community.
The skit has sparked outrage among Christian leaders, who have labeled it an affront to their faith and indicative of a broader cultural decline. Johnson condemned the performance as an attack on Christian values, stating, “The mockery of the Last Supper during the Olympics opening ceremony was shocking and deeply insulting to Christians worldwide. This is a clear example of the ongoing assault on our faith and traditional values. Yet, we remain steadfast in our belief that truth and virtue will ultimately prevail.”
Florida Governor Ron DeSantis also weighed in, aligning with Johnson’s sentiments and criticizing the ceremony’s content. He remarked, “The mockery of Christians at the Olympics opening ceremony highlights a troubling trend of cultural erosion.”
