Trump Wins Over Unexpected Group

President Donald Trump is gaining significant ground with younger voters, particularly those aged 18-29, as reflected in a recent poll. As the 2024 election approaches, Trump’s approval ratings among this group are rising, a shift from the more mixed reactions seen after he returned to office for his second term. The latest AtlasIntel survey, conducted between February 24 and February 27 with 2,849 respondents, reveals that Trump’s approval stands at 50.3%, while 49.7% disapprove. This shows a solid and almost evenly split national sentiment.

Specifically, among 364 respondents aged 18-29, Trump’s approval rating has reached 52.7%, with 47.3% expressing disapproval. This gives him a net positive approval of +5.4 percentage points among this demographic, signaling a sharp reversal from the dismal numbers seen just a month earlier. A January AtlasIntel poll revealed that 58.7% of Gen Z voters disapproved of Trump, resulting in a net disapproval of -17.4 percentage points.

The improvement among younger voters is noteworthy, as traditionally, this age group has leaned Democratic. In the 2024 election, Trump garnered 47% of the 18-29 vote, a significant increase from his 36% support in 2020. In comparison, Vice President Kamala Harris won 51% of their vote, according to an AP VoteCast analysis.

The momentum Trump is building with younger voters is critical as they represent a key segment of the electorate. Historically, Democrats have dominated this group, but if their support continues to wane, the party may face a serious challenge in upcoming elections. Professor David B. Cohen of the University of Akron pointed out that Democrats must find a way to reconnect with young voters—especially young men—if they hope to remain competitive at the national level.

This shift is consistent with Trump’s overall approval trajectory, which has remained stable in recent months, according to AtlasIntel’s polling. Despite facing higher disapproval among older demographics, Trump’s strong standing with younger Americans could have significant implications as the race for the White House heats up. With polls like these, it’s clear that Trump is positioning himself well for the 2024 election, especially if he can continue to resonate with younger voters and address key issues like the economy and foreign policy.
