President Donald Trump ignited discussion online Friday night after unveiling a new nickname for himself during a late-night burst of posts on Truth Social.
In one widely shared message, Trump pointed to what he described as unexpected praise from CNN, highlighting recent movement in mortgage interest rates.
“Even Fake News CNN is praising the DROP in Mortgage Interest Rates!” Trump wrote, linking to a segment from CNN News Central that attributed lower rates, at least in part, to a Trump-backed economic approach. Supporters viewed the acknowledgment as validation, while critics argued the trend could be temporary.
Minutes later, the president shifted focus to a cornerstone of his economic agenda: tariffs.
Trump posted two consecutive black-and-white images showing him seated behind the Resolute Desk in the Oval Office, staring directly into the camera. The first image labeled him “Mister Tariff.” Seconds later, the second post elevated the branding to “Tariff King.”
The nickname drew immediate attention, particularly because tariffs remain one of Trump’s most debated policies. While many supporters credit tariffs with protecting American manufacturing and pressuring foreign competitors, public polling has shown mixed reactions.
According to a recent Economist/YouGov survey, tariffs ranked lower than several other Trump initiatives when voters were asked to rate policy approval. However, Trump’s immigration enforcement agenda continues to receive stronger support by comparison.
Despite ongoing criticism surrounding Immigration and Customs Enforcement operations, polling consistently shows immigration as one of Trump’s strongest issues with voters, particularly among older Americans concerned about border security and public safety.
Trump’s foreign policy toward Venezuela has also drawn attention, landing near tariffs in overall approval but with fewer respondents expressing strong opposition.
Earlier in the week, Trump reinforced his view of tariffs as a strategic diplomatic tool. In a statement posted online, he warned that any nation continuing to do business with Iran would face a 25 percent tariff on trade with the United States, calling the measure immediate and final.
While critics continue to raise concerns about trade disruptions and political rhetoric, Trump has remained unapologetic. Even after last year’s “No Kings” protests, the president has shown little hesitation in embracing bold messaging and high-profile titles as he pushes policies he says are designed to defend American jobs, industries, and national interests.
