Trump Preparing To Arrest Governor And Mayor?

President Donald Trump ignited controversy on Saturday after publicly blaming Minnesota Governor Tim Walz and Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey for escalating unrest following a deadly incident involving federal immigration officers in Minneapolis.

The comments came after a federal immigration enforcement operation ended in a fatal shooting, triggering protests, clashes with law enforcement, and the deployment of tear gas. The Department of Homeland Security and local police said officers were forced to respond as crowds gathered and tensions rapidly escalated.

Trump Slams Local Leaders Over Law Enforcement Response

In a series of posts on Truth Social, President Trump questioned why local police were allegedly prevented from assisting Immigration and Customs Enforcement officers during the operation. He suggested that city and state leadership restricted police involvement, leaving federal agents to protect themselves in a volatile situation.

Trump argued that such decisions endangered officers and the public, asking why local authorities would “stand down” during a high-risk enforcement action.

Fraud Allegations Resurface Amid Unrest

Beyond public safety concerns, Trump reignited long-standing allegations of widespread financial fraud in Minnesota. He claimed that billions of dollars in taxpayer funds have gone missing under Democratic leadership, accusing political officials of using civil unrest to distract from deeper financial misconduct.

The president demanded accountability, stating that those responsible for stolen public funds should face prison sentences. He compared the alleged wrongdoing to a large-scale bank robbery and insisted that taxpayers deserve restitution.

Accusations of Incitement and Political Cover-Ups

Trump further accused Governor Walz and Mayor Frey of fueling unrest through what he described as reckless and inflammatory rhetoric. Rather than criticizing federal officers, he said, state and local leaders should be cooperating with law enforcement and assisting investigations into fraud and illegal immigration.

He also highlighted immigration enforcement efforts, claiming that more than 12,000 illegal alien criminals—many described as violent—have been arrested and removed from Minnesota. Trump warned that the situation could have been far worse without federal intervention.

Details Emerge About the Fatal Shooting

Minneapolis Police Chief Brian O’Hara confirmed the man killed during the operation was a 37-year-old U.S. citizen and a lawful gun owner with a permit to carry. Authorities later identified him as Alex Jeffrey Pretti, according to local media reports.

The Department of Homeland Security stated that officers fired defensive shots after the man allegedly approached Border Patrol agents with a 9mm handgun and resisted attempts to disarm him. Officials said he was carrying two additional magazines and had no identification at the time.

After the shooting, federal officers deployed tear gas as crowds—estimated at around 200 individuals—confronted agents at the scene.

Ongoing Federal Fraud Investigations in Minnesota

Separate from the shooting, federal prosecutors have outlined multiple major fraud investigations in Minnesota involving federal funds. One of the most prominent cases, Feeding Our Future, centers on an alleged $250 million scheme tied to a federally funded child nutrition program.

In December, a federal prosecutor claimed that as much as half of the roughly $18 billion distributed through 14 Minnesota-run programs since 2018 may have been lost to fraud—allegations that continue to draw national attention.

Political Fallout Intensifies

As investigations continue and tensions remain high, Trump’s remarks have intensified debate over immigration enforcement, public safety, government accountability, and alleged corruption. The controversy is expected to fuel further political and legal battles as the 2026 election cycle approaches.
