Trump Issues Brazen Threat To The GOP

Former President Trump is urging a restructuring of the Republican National Committee (RNC) should the organization proceed with primary debates, a format that Trump has consistently rejected.

According to The Hill, on his Truth Social platform, Trump celebrated recent poll results, citing a Harvard CAPS-Harris Poll survey. According to the poll, 67 percent of GOP voters expressed support for Trump in the Republican presidential primary, with Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis at 9 percent, and former U.N. Ambassador Nikki Haley at 8 percent. Biotech entrepreneur Vivek Ramaswamy received 5 percent, while former New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie garnered 3 percent. Additionally, the poll indicated Trump leading President Biden 48 percent to 41 percent in a hypothetical two-way matchup.

In his post, Trump used nicknames to mock DeSantis and Haley, labeling them “DeSanctimonious” and “Birdbrain,” respectively. He emphasized the need for the RNC to cut costs on what he referred to as “lowest ever ratings debates” and insisted on revamping the RNC if it continued with the debates, all while advancing unfounded claims about the alleged election theft in 2020.

Trump’s campaign has a history of advocating for an end to RNC-hosted presidential primary debates. Chris LaCivita, a Trump campaign adviser, previously stated that the RNC should cease such debates to focus efforts on opposing “Crooked Joe Biden” and avoid squandering resources that could be directed toward removing Biden from the White House. Trump has chosen to skip the last three GOP debates, opting for alternative events, as polls consistently depict him as the dominant figure in both national and early state primary polling. As the 2024 election unfolds, it appears increasingly likely to be a rematch between Trump and Biden. The Hill has sought comments from the RNC regarding Trump’s latest stance.
