President Donald Trump just received some tough new poll numbers — and the mainstream media is jumping for joy. But many conservatives say it’s just another attempt to tear down a president who continues to fight for the American people.
Poll Shows Approval Dip Amid Economic Challenges
A new Economist/YouGov poll released Tuesday shows Trump’s approval rating slipping to 39%, with 58% disapproving, marking a net approval of –19 points — his lowest rating of his second term.
Pollsters blame “economic anxiety” and the ongoing government shutdown, but critics say the media’s nonstop negativity plays a much bigger role. Despite the hit, Trump’s support among Republican voters remains solid, especially on issues like border security, American jobs, and fighting inflation.
The poll surveyed 1,623 adults nationwide between October 24–27 and carries a margin of error of 3.4%.
Experts Predict Trouble — But Conservatives Aren’t Buying It
Liberal analysts claim these numbers could spell problems for Republicans in the 2026 midterm elections. Columbia University’s Robert Y. Shapiro warned that low approval ratings could hurt the GOP’s chances of keeping the House and Senate.
But conservative strategists point out that the same warnings were made in 2016, 2020, and 2024 — and Trump still won big battles despite endless opposition from Democrats, the media, and even some within his own party.
Lara Trump Fires Back at Critics
First daughter-in-law Lara Trump responded swiftly, saying Trump has been underestimated his entire career.
“The so-called ‘experts’ have been wrong about Donald Trump since 1985,” she posted on X. “He’s the ultimate dealmaker — and I believe he’ll leave office with the highest approval rating of any modern president.”
Her comments struck a chord with Trump supporters who see the latest poll as another example of the establishment trying to discourage the movement that made America great again.
Trump’s Next Moves Could Shift the Numbers
Political analysts agree that Trump’s ratings could rebound depending on how long the shutdown lasts, the direction of the economy, and foreign policy wins — particularly his success in pressuring Iran and restoring peace in Gaza.
With his proven ability to outsmart critics, Trump’s team believes these numbers are only a temporary dip. As one conservative commentator put it, “Every time they count Trump out, he comes back stronger.”
