Mark Cuban has been a consistent critic of Donald Trump over the past two election cycles, 2016 and 2020. However, recent polling results among his own social media followers suggest that the former NBA star’s views are not shared by everyone in his audience.
Cuban recently conducted a poll on X (formerly Twitter), asking his 8.8 million followers which public figure they would prefer young children to emulate: Donald Trump or Kamala Harris. The results were a decisive win for Trump, who garnered 68.9% of the vote compared to Harris’s 31.1%. The poll, which drew substantial engagement with 7.1 million views, over 31,000 likes, more than 23,000 retweets, and over 34,000 comments, highlights a notable contrast between Cuban’s opinions and those of many of his followers.
The results sparked further debate, leading to additional polls comparing Elon Musk and Trump to Cuban. These subsequent polls showed even greater margins in favor of Musk and Trump over Cuban, reinforcing the notion that Cuban’s views might not align with the broader sentiment among his audience.
Trump impersonator Shawn Farash, known for his appearances on Newsmax, humorously criticized Cuban’s polling efforts, suggesting that Cuban’s posts are met with “crushing” responses from those with “common sense.”
Cuban has been a prominent supporter of President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris, and has publicly criticized Trump. Reflecting on his past views, Cuban admitted to initially viewing Trump as a refreshing departure from traditional politics. “In 2015, I thought Trump was a breath of fresh air because he wasn’t your typical candidate,” Cuban told the New York Post last month. “I didn’t think he had a real chance, but I wanted to disrupt the political status quo, which I’ve always found problematic.”
This recent poll and the reaction it provoked underscore a clear divide between Cuban’s personal political stance and the opinions of a significant portion of his social media following.
