Washington, D.C. – President Donald Trump delivered a bold message Wednesday about America’s ongoing trade negotiations with China, calling Chinese President Xi Jinping “very tough” and “extremely difficult to make a deal with.” The message came as the Trump administration pushes forward with efforts to protect American workers and industries from unfair foreign competition.
“I’ve always had respect for President Xi of China and still do,” Trump wrote on Truth Social. “But he’s incredibly tough — one of the hardest people to strike a deal with!”
The post followed the release of official letters sent by the White House to international trade partners on Tuesday. These letters served as a final reminder: the window is closing to strike fair deals before Trump’s powerful reciprocal tariffs are reinstated.
White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt confirmed the message’s intent. “This was simply a friendly reminder. The deadline is fast approaching. President Trump expects fair, America-first trade agreements — and we are on track.”
Trump’s America-First Trade Strategy Paying Off
Last month, the United States reached a significant trade deal with China that reduced tariffs on Chinese goods entering the U.S. from 145% down to 30%. In return, Beijing agreed to cut its own tariffs on American products from 125% to just 10%. However, President Trump has since accused China of failing to uphold its end of the agreement.
“I made a FAST DEAL with China because I didn’t want them to collapse,” Trump wrote. “But if they break it — we won’t hesitate to act.”
China Fires Back — But Trump Stays the Course
In response, Chinese officials accused the U.S. of triggering economic tension. But under President Trump’s leadership, the message remains firm: America will no longer be taken advantage of.
With President Trump back in command and pushing bold policies, many Americans are applauding his tough stance against China and other countries that have long benefited from lopsided trade deals.
