Democrat leaders in Washington, D.C., are furious with President Donald Trump after his decision to deploy federal troops and National Guard forces to the nation’s capital.
Mayor Muriel Bowser even went so far as to label the move “#UnAmerican,” blasting Trump for sending military forces to stop violent crime and clear dangerous homeless encampments.
Trump Strikes Back: Cleaning Up America’s Capital
The White House says Bowser is dead wrong.
“President Trump’s bold leadership is quickly making our nation’s capital safer. In less than ten days, over 300 dangerous criminals have been arrested and taken off the streets of Washington, D.C.,” a Trump spokeswoman told Newsweek.
Trump himself warned earlier this month that the city had been “overtaken by violent gangs, drugged-out maniacs, and homeless encampments.” Now, he says, order is finally being restored.
Democrats Cry “Un-American” While Crime Plummets
Bowser and her allies are already suing to block Trump’s intervention, calling it a violation of local control. Protesters even marched to the White House carrying signs that read, “No fascist takeover of D.C.”
But Trump’s supporters say Democrats are out of touch with reality. Crime in the city has dropped 26% compared to last year, proving Trump’s crackdown is working.
Republican-led states are backing the effort too. West Virginia, South Carolina, and Ohio are all sending additional National Guard troops to support Trump’s mission.
Trump’s Executive Order: Safe and Beautiful Again
In March, Trump signed an executive order titled “Making the District of Columbia Safe and Beautiful.” It directed federal officials to dismantle homeless camps on federal land and offer shelter, addiction services, or jail time for those who refuse to comply.
At a White House press briefing, officials said the National Guard will protect federal property, deter crime, and create a safe environment for law enforcement.
On Truth Social, Trump put it bluntly:
“I’m going to make our Capital safer and more beautiful than it ever was before. The Homeless have to move out, IMMEDIATELY.”
Law and Order vs. Liberal Chaos
While Democrats attack Trump for being “un-American,” conservatives argue he is delivering what D.C. desperately needs: law and order.
Residents have grown tired of rising violence, failed liberal leadership, and homeless encampments spreading across public parks. Trump’s action, they say, is proof that only strong leadership can truly restore safety and dignity to America’s capital.
