Washington, D.C. – Republican Congressman Tim Burchett is urging his fellow lawmakers to stop celebrating and start legislating, warning that the GOP’s control of Congress is hanging by a thread.
“We are one flu season away from losing our majority,” Burchett posted on X (formerly Twitter), calling on his colleagues to get serious about enacting President Trump’s agenda.
GOP Majority at Risk: Why Every Seat Matters
The Republican Party holds a narrow 218–213 lead in the House of Representatives. Four additional seats are currently vacant due to resignations and deaths, leaving the balance of power highly unstable.
Meanwhile, Republicans secured the Senate with a 53–47 split, giving them control of both chambers—for now.
But with the 2026 midterm elections looming, the GOP could lose this fragile grip. Just a few unexpected outcomes—whether from illness, resignations, or Democrat wins—could tip the scales and hand power back to the left.
Trump’s Bold Executive Orders Face Legal Challenges
Since President Trump’s second inauguration on January 20, he has wasted no time asserting conservative leadership.
Among his top executive orders:
- Declaring a national emergency at the southern border
- Affirming the biological definition of gender—male and female only
- Renaming the Gulf of Mexico to the Gulf of America, reinforcing national pride
However, many of these orders are facing legal pushback. Unless they are passed as formal legislation through Congress, future liberal administrations could overturn them.
Burchett’s message is clear: codify the Trump agenda now—before it’s too late.
Conservative Leaders Sound the Alarm
Florida Governor Ron DeSantis recently criticized Republicans in Congress for moving too slowly.
“What have they done?” he asked during a roundtable discussion.
“So much of modern Congress is political theater. It’s not about results—it’s about keeping seats.”
DeSantis called for term limits, slamming career politicians for failing to deliver on promises to voters who want real change in Washington.
Senator Mike Lee of Utah agreed with Burchett’s concerns, replying on X: “Good point.”
Rep. Lauren Boebert chimed in as well, showing support with applause emojis.
Trump’s Agenda Depends on Unity—and Urgency
With four House seats empty and a razor-thin majority, even a small rebellion within the GOP could derail Trump’s goals.
- Rep. Matt Gaetz resigned in November after being tapped as Trump’s Attorney General—though he later withdrew amid party backlash.
- Rep. Mike Waltz left his seat to serve as Trump’s National Security Adviser.
- Two Democrat lawmakers, Sylvester Turner (TX) and Raul Grijalva (AZ), passed away earlier this month.
Every empty seat leaves Trump with less room to maneuver, and less time to secure lasting policy victories.
Time Is Running Out
If Republicans want to protect conservative values, secure the border, and restore American greatness, now is the time to act.
Burchett’s warning serves as a wake-up call: The Trump agenda is within reach—but only if Republicans stay focused and unified.
