Biden’s failures continue to hurt America.
On Monday, Mike Pence strongly criticized President Joe Biden in response to a concerning report from The Wall Street Journal. The report revealed that a joint naval force composed of Russian and Chinese ships had recently conducted a patrol along the Alaskan coast, just outside U.S. territorial waters.
According to Newsmax, this combined fleet, the largest to approach American shores, consisted of 11 ships from Russia and China. The operation was closely monitored by four U.S. destroyers and P-8 Poseidon aircraft.
Pence, a former vice president in the Trump administration and a current 2024 GOP presidential candidate, attributed the incident to what he described as Biden’s ineffective leadership. He expressed his concerns on X, the social media platform formerly known as Twitter. Pence emphasized that the coordinated activities of Russia and China near the American coast and the Arctic region underscore the need for a strong response.
In his message, Pence stated, “Under President Biden, Russia and China threaten to conquer their neighbors, and their new partnership is now conducting joint naval operations near American waters. It is essential for America to have a new Commander-in-Chief who recognizes this threat, bolsters our naval capabilities, expands shipyards, and enhances our military preparedness to counter the evolving challenges of the 21st Century. The adversaries of freedom only respect strength.”
This brazen display of aggression occurs against the backdrop of escalating tensions between the United States and Russia, as well as China. Key points of contention include issues concerning Taiwan and Ukraine, as noted by The Hill.
The report from The Wall Street Journal included confirmation from a spokesperson for the U.S. Northern Command. However, specific details about the number of ships involved and their precise location were not disclosed. The spokesperson emphasized that the naval patrol operated within international waters and was not deemed a direct threat.
Senator Dan Sullivan, a member of the GOP representing Alaska, commended the U.S. response to what he called a “new era of authoritarian aggression.”
According to The Wall Street Journal, the Russian Defense Ministry announced that joint drills involving communication training, helicopter operations, and anti-submarine exercises took place between Russian and Chinese vessels. This included a simulation of detecting and neutralizing a mock target.
The Chinese embassy in Washington provided a statement to The Wall Street Journal, indicating that the joint maritime patrol was a part of their annual cooperation plan. The embassy spokesman clarified that the action was not aimed at any specific third party and had no connection to the current international and regional situation.
In response to the joint naval operation, the U.S. dispatched the USS John S. McCain, USS Benfold, USS John Finn, and USS Chung-Hoon. These four destroyers monitored the movement of the combined fleet, in addition to the presence of American maritime patrol and reconnaissance aircraft.
