A recent hypothetical poll is generating headlines, suggesting that if term limits didn’t apply, former President Barack Obama would lead President Donald Trump by a wide margin—fueling excitement on the left and skepticism on the right.
But there’s just one problem: it’s pure fantasy.
The Constitution’s 22nd Amendment explicitly prohibits any president from serving more than two terms. Despite that, left-wing outlets continue promoting far-fetched scenarios meant to distract from President Trump’s ongoing momentum and legislative victories.
According to a Daily Mail/J.L. Partners poll conducted July 9–10 among 1,013 registered voters, Obama supposedly leads Trump 52% to 41%. The poll’s margin of error is ±3.1%, but the headlines ignore the facts: Trump still outperforms Joe Biden and Hillary Clinton in similar hypothetical matchups.
That’s right—Trump beats Biden and Clinton, exposing just how weak the current Democrat bench truly is. While Obama remains popular among liberal voters, that doesn’t translate into political relevance in 2025. He simply can’t run, and even some Democrats quietly admit it.
The Left’s Obsession with Term Limits
The liberal establishment has long fantasized about repealing presidential term limits, but such an effort would face insurmountable legal hurdles. To amend the Constitution, it would require:
- A two-thirds vote in both the House and Senate
- Ratification by 38 out of 50 states
With strong Republican support across the country and widespread opposition to giving any one person unlimited power, the odds are effectively zero.
Even former Obama officials have acknowledged the limits. During a 2015 speech, Obama himself admitted, “The law is the law, and no person is above it, not even the president.”
Meanwhile, President Trump addressed the topic earlier this year, telling NBC News, “A lot of people want me to do it… but it’s very early in the administration.” His remarks show humility and restraint—traits the media rarely credits him for.
Trump Still Dominates the GOP
Trump continues to enjoy massive support among Republican voters, and conservatives over 50 remember the prosperity, strength, and peace during his presidency. Compared to skyrocketing inflation, open borders, and global instability under Biden, Trump’s policies look better every day.
Congressman Andy Ogles (R-TN) recently praised President Trump, stating that his leadership is helping undo the harm inflicted by big government policies and Democratic allies.
And that’s why so many Americans want more of Trump’s leadership—whether it’s in 2024 or through his America First movement continuing into the future.
Media Hype, No Legal Basis
Despite dramatic headlines, constitutional experts confirm there is no path to a third term—neither for Trump nor Obama. Former federal prosecutor Neama Rahmani told Newsweek, “A third Trump term is a political fantasy that has no legal basis in reality.”
Yet the media keeps pushing this narrative to stir division, distract from Democrat failures, and boost traffic to their websites.
BOTTOM LINE:
This poll is nothing more than a media stunt designed to elevate Obama and distract from Trump’s continued influence. The Constitution isn’t changing—and neither is the conservative movement that still sees Donald Trump as the most effective president of our lifetime.
