Leaked Signal Chat Was NOT a Security Threat — But Democrats and The Atlantic Are Running With It Anyway
A sensational new report by The Atlantic is under fire for what critics are calling another desperate attempt to smear President Trump’s national security team.
The liberal outlet claimed on Wednesday it had obtained “attack plans” from a leaked Signal group chat that allegedly involved top Trump administration officials, including:
- Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth
- National Security Advisor Mike Waltz
- Vice President JD Vance
- Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard
But the truth? According to officials — and even some parts of The Atlantic’s own article — there were no actual “war plans” shared at all.
What Was Actually Said?
The messages in question were from a private Signal thread where officials discussed impending U.S. airstrikes against Houthi militants in Yemen — terrorists backed by Iran.
Here’s what was reportedly shared:
🕒 Timing updates for aircraft takeoffs
🛫 References to F-18 jets and MQ-9 drones
🔐 A message saying, “We are currently clean on OPSEC”
🙏 Hegseth ending with: “Godspeed to our Warriors”
No classified intel. No target locations. No troop movements.
“These aren’t war plans,” Hegseth said Wednesday. “There were no names, no units, no sources, no methods — and no classified material. It proves Jeff Goldberg has never seen a real war plan in his life.”
Liberal Media Hype or National Security Concern?
The Atlantic ran with the headline: “Here Are the Attack Plans That Trump’s Advisers Shared on Signal.”
But even that’s falling apart. The article itself admits:
“There is a clear public interest… especially because senior administration figures are attempting to downplay the significance of the messages.”
Critics say the real “threat” isn’t what was shared — but how the media is twisting it.
Vice President JD Vance responded bluntly:
“Goldberg oversold what he had. Again.”
DNI Tulsi Gabbard confirmed during a Senate hearing that no classified material was involved.
Democrats Jump on the Bandwagon
Despite zero evidence of wrongdoing, Democrats wasted no time calling for resignations.
House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries even sent a letter to President Trump demanding Hegseth be “fired immediately.”
Jeffries claimed the messages included “highly sensitive war plans” — a claim that’s quickly falling apart.
Trump Allies Fire Back — HARD
Top Trump officials and supporters aren’t staying quiet:
🛑 Taylor Budowich, White House Deputy Chief of Staff:
“The Atlantic abandoned their bogus ‘war plans’ narrative. They LIED — again — to spread another hoax.”
🎯 Karoline Leavitt, White House Press Secretary:
“This wasn’t about national security. It was about targeting Trump’s team with a made-up scandal.”
🛡️ Mike Waltz wrote on X:
“NO locations. NO sources. NO methods. Foreign partners were already briefed. NO war plans. Just another hit job.”
Bottom Line: It Was a Successful Mission — and Another Media Flop
Despite the noise, the airstrikes were successful, and American service members stayed safe.
Secretary Hegseth summed it up:
“I know exactly what we’re doing. I’m proud of our team and what we accomplished that night. The mission was a success. That’s what matters.”
As legacy media loses trust, more Americans are turning to independent, truth-first outlets that tell the real story — without the spin.
