Democrats Terrified Of Trump’s Popularity

Former New York Governor David Paterson recently commented that Donald Trump’s large rally in The Bronx is a significant “wake-up call” for President Biden and the Democratic Party. Paterson shared his insights on 77 WABC radio’s “The Cats Roundtable” with John Catsimatidis, highlighting a Siena College poll showing that Trump is gaining traction in New York, a state typically dominated by Democrats. The poll indicated that Biden leads Trump by a narrow margin of 47% to 38%.

Paterson, who previously chaired the state Democratic Party, stressed that Democrats cannot rely solely on criticizing Trump’s past actions. He argued that focusing on past grievances without addressing current issues like inflation might not be effective in changing voters’ minds. Instead, the Democrats need to provide tangible solutions to the problems facing the electorate today.

Trump’s rally in Crotona Park, located in the predominantly Democratic South Bronx, drew a significant crowd, which Paterson praised as a smart political move. He noted the effectiveness of rallying support in areas that are typically unfriendly to Republicans. Reflecting on the previous election cycle, Paterson pointed out that Biden’s campaign allowed Trump to defend his presidency during the pandemic, which contributed to Biden’s victory. This time around, Paterson believes Biden will need to defend his current record more vigorously.

The Siena College poll’s results are particularly striking given New York’s history as a Democratic stronghold. The last Republican to win New York was Ronald Reagan in 1984. Paterson remarked that Trump trailing Biden by only 9% indicates a notable shift in voter sentiment.

In a related discussion, Republican Senator Tim Scott of South Carolina, who is considered a potential vice-presidential candidate for Trump, praised Trump’s outreach efforts to minority communities. On CNN’s “State of The Union,” Scott acknowledged Trump’s initiatives to connect with voters in areas traditionally neglected by Republicans. He described this approach as part of a comprehensive strategy to win not only votes but also the support of Americans from all backgrounds, aiming to unite the country and build a prosperous future.

Scott emphasized Trump’s commitment to a broad campaign strategy, which includes engaging with diverse communities as a crucial element of their plan to win the upcoming election. This approach, Scott noted, reflects Trump’s goal to not only secure electoral victory but also to foster national unity and progress.
