On Tuesday evening, the CNN NewsNight panel couldn’t help but chuckle at the embarrassing and misguided anti-Elon Musk protest held earlier that day in Washington, D.C., organized by Democratic politicians. The event was met with mockery and disbelief, especially after clips of the protest aired, including one of Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) repeating “We will win! We will win!” and “We won’t rest! We won’t rest!” in a desperate attempt to rally support. The lack of conviction and direction in his words led the panel to question the Democrats’ leadership.
Host Abby Phillip turned to Gretchen Carlson for her thoughts on the event. Carlson, laughing, pointed out that the Democratic Party was missing strong leadership and had been caught off guard during the Trump administration and, more recently, by Musk’s growing influence. “The Democrats need a real leader, which they don’t have,” Carlson explained. “I’ve said before that Elon Musk would become a major influence for President Trump, and we’re seeing that unfold. Democrats should’ve been ready for this.” She further criticized their lack of preparedness, remarking that they should have had a strategy in place long before the protest.
When Phillip turned to Democratic commentator Bakari Sellers, asking if he was feeling energized after watching the protest, Sellers sarcastically responded, “Oh, you can see it in my face, can’t you?” He then expressed his frustration with the party’s inability to present a coherent plan. He suggested that Democrats should focus on real concerns like the struggles of small business owners or people directly impacted by economic hardships, rather than attacking figures like Musk who don’t resonate with most Americans.
Conservative commentator Scott Jennings couldn’t resist joining in. He gleefully observed, “The Democratic Party is so far off track right now, they’re going to need a GPS to get back on course. It’s almost laughable watching them flounder. The left is so out of touch, and it’s a gift to Republicans!”
The panel concluded that the Democrats’ latest antics, including their obsession with Musk, only further revealed their disconnect from the everyday concerns of average Americans. Instead of addressing real issues, they’re wasting time chasing shadows.
