Texas is continuing its efforts to address the escalating border crisis by transporting migrants to cities led by Democratic officials across the country.
According to Governor Greg Abbott, a Republican from Texas, who shared updates on social media Tuesday afternoon, nearly 42,000 migrants are being bused to various cities as a measure to alleviate the strain on overwhelmed border towns. Governor Abbott made the following announcements on platforms like X and Facebook:
- More than 12,000 migrants are being transported to Washington, D.C.
- Over 15,300 migrants are being taken to New York City.
- Approximately 9,200 migrants are heading to Chicago.
- Around 3,000 migrants are being relocated to Philadelphia.
- Over 1,800 migrants are being sent to Denver.
- Approximately 650 migrants are being transported to Los Angeles.
These actions come in response to the unprecedented operational statistics released by U.S. Customs and Border Protection, which reported 232,972 encounters in August, marking a record high for that month.
Furthermore, recent reports from The New York Post indicated that Governor Abbott arranged for buses to transfer migrants from Del Rio, Texas, and Eagle Pass, Texas, to New York City.
Governor Abbott emphasized his commitment to addressing the situation by deploying Texas National Guard troops to the U.S.-Mexico border. In a letter addressed to President Joe Biden, he characterized the influx of illegal migrants as an “invasion.”
“I have officially declared this situation an invasion at our border due to the policies implemented by President Biden,” Governor Abbott stated on X. “We have deployed the Texas National Guard, the Department of Public Safety, and local law enforcement. We are implementing border security measures such as constructing border walls, deploying razor wire, and utilizing marine barriers. Our objective is also to deter further migrant entries.”
Mayor Oscar Leeser of El Paso, Texas, expressed his concerns on Saturday, stating that his city is reaching a breaking point due to the crisis. Eagle Pass, Texas, Mayor Rolando Salinas, a Democrat, who declared a state of emergency in his town this month, has also described the situation as a “crisis” and voiced his disappointment in the lack of communication from the Biden administration.
“I’ll be candid with you; I firmly believe that the administration bears a significant responsibility for this crisis,” Mayor Salinas remarked during an interview with CNN. “I haven’t received any communication from anyone in the administration. There have been no statements from the President or the Vice President. I haven’t heard from anyone.”
