Rep. Jasmine Crockett lashes out as GOP calls for end to taxpayer support of left-wing media outlets
A heated showdown unfolded in Congress this week as House Republicans demanded an end to taxpayer funding for public broadcasting networks long criticized for liberal media bias—namely NPR and PBS.
The hearing featured PBS CEO Paula Kerger and NPR’s new CEO Katherine Maher, both grilled over their networks’ use of public funds while allegedly promoting left-leaning narratives. The testimony comes amid growing concern from Americans—especially older voters—about media integrity, government overreach, and the misuse of taxpayer dollars.
MTG: “This Needs to End Now”
Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) didn’t mince words.
“For too long, American taxpayers have been forced to fund biased news. This needs to end, and it needs to end now,” Greene said, slamming both NPR and PBS as radical left-wing echo chambers.
The call to defund these outlets reflects a broader conservative movement to restore accountability in journalism and end government funding for what many consider partisan propaganda.
Crockett’s Outburst: Defending Bias With Profanity
Rep. Jasmine Crockett (D-TX) came to the defense of the publicly funded networks, accusing Republicans of trying to silence opposing views. In a fiery outburst, she claimed the GOP wants to shut down all media “that is not Fox News,” and used profane language to make her point.
“To be clear, free speech is not about what y’all want somebody to say… we need to stop playing because that’s what y’all are doing here,” she shouted, before being gaveled down.
Crockett also attempted to justify NPR and PBS by citing their roles in rural emergency broadcasting, which she says is dependent on public funds.
Hypocrisy? Crockett Under Fire for Mocking Disabled Governor
Crockett’s defense of free speech and respect for all voices rang hollow for many, as she’s still facing backlash for mocking Texas Gov. Greg Abbott, who uses a wheelchair. She recently referred to him as “Governor Hot Wheels”, a comment widely condemned as offensive and disrespectful.
For many conservative voters, this moment highlights a double standard—where Democrats defend free speech only when it supports their narrative.
Should Your Tax Dollars Fund Liberal Media?
As more Americans ask tough questions about where their money goes, one thing is clear: trust in media is at an all-time low. For a growing number of taxpayers—especially older Americans—it may be time to pull the plug on partisan public broadcasting.
