Biden should take this advice.
On Tuesday, Representative Chip Roy, a Republican from Texas, made a forceful call for President Joe Biden to dismiss Secretary of Homeland Security Alejandro Mayorkas as part of his conditions for endorsing a continuing resolution. This plea was detailed in a letter Roy penned to his colleagues. The objective behind these demands is to garner his support for either legislation to allocate funds for the Department of Homeland Security or for a continuing resolution. Both options need to be addressed prior to the impending September 30 deadline to prevent a government shutdown.
According to Newsmax, Key points in Roy’s list of requisites include initiatives aimed at bolstering security along the southern border. This encompasses the endorsement of the House border security bill H.R. 2, as well as the provision of a $10 billion reimbursement to the state of Texas to cover border security expenses.
Roy articulated his concerns, stating, “Adopting a CR would entail the undesirable consequence of upholding the funding level and policies from the problematic FY 2023 omnibus, a contention validly highlighted by House Speaker Kevin McCarthy. Such perpetuation of the border crisis is unacceptable.” Roy was insistent that advancing a comprehensive DHS appropriations bill spanning a full year, sans substantial alterations to fortify the southern border, would also be met with his opposition, even if accompanied by certain policy riders.
In addition to these demands, the Texan congressman unequivocally urged President Biden to ensure the departure of Secretary Mayorkas through resignation, termination, or removal from office. Roy emphasized, “It is a fundamental principle that no member of Congress should entertain the notion of funding a federal agency that is at odds with the interests of his state and constituents. We carry a moral obligation to safeguard our states, our nation, and notably, the vulnerable migrant children who are subject to maltreatment due to the calamity unfolding at our southern border. Absent robust border security, funding is untenable.”
