The Biden campaign marked former President Trump’s 78th birthday with a mocking list of 78 “accomplishments” that highlighted his legal issues and controversial moments from his presidency. This list included his recent felony convictions, challenges as a business owner, his response to the 2017 Charlottesville rally, his call for the death penalty for the Central Park Five, a social media video referencing a “unified Reich,” his handling of the COVID-19 pandemic, attempts to overturn the Affordable Care Act, and his statements about ending Roe v. Wade.
The Biden campaign also issued a statement calling Trump a threat to democracy and vowing to prevent him from becoming president again. Meanwhile, Trump planned to celebrate his birthday at a Club 47 USA event in Florida, hosted at the Palm Beach County Convention Center. This group claims to be the largest collective of Trump supporters nationwide.
The issue of age is significant in the upcoming election, with both President Biden, 81, and Trump, 78, being the oldest major party candidates to face off. Voter concerns about age appear more significant for Biden, as a recent CBS News/YouGov poll showed more voters believe Trump has the mental and cognitive capacity to serve as president compared to Biden.
If either candidate wins, they would set a record for being the oldest president by the end of their second term. Trump would be 82 years old, while Biden would be 86. Trump has generally avoided direct attacks on Biden’s age, instead criticizing his competence and presidency. During a rally, when a supporter wished Trump a happy birthday, he joked about not wanting to be reminded of his age and quipped about pretending the day doesn’t exist.
