Another Top Hollywood Star Attacks Trump

Hollywood actress Glenn Close is the latest celebrity figure to publicly condemn President Donald Trump following renewed unrest tied to federal immigration enforcement in Minneapolis.

In a video posted Sunday to her Instagram account — where she has more than one million followers — Close said she could no longer remain silent after another deadly encounter involving federal agents in Minnesota. The longtime actress accused the Trump administration of what she described as cruelty and hypocrisy, saying recent events compelled her to speak out.

Close, 78, said she has spent much of the past several months living outside the United States and has been observing American politics from abroad. Reading from prepared remarks, she claimed that U.S. democratic institutions are being weakened and that the nation is entering what she portrayed as a dangerous and unstable period.

She went on to deliver a sweeping critique of the administration, accusing it of arrogance, corruption, and a disregard for human life. Close also warned that heightened tensions surrounding immigration enforcement could lead to further violence, suggesting that some Americans may feel emboldened to take the law into their own hands.

Her comments followed the fatal shooting of Alex Pretti, a 37-year-old ICU nurse who was killed by a Customs and Border Patrol agent during a federal operation in Minneapolis. That incident came just weeks after another fatal shooting in Minnesota involving an ICE officer during the Department of Homeland Security’s immigration crackdown.

Expanding beyond the individual cases, Close framed her remarks as a broader reflection on American society and human nature. She described humanity as historically divided and prone to conflict, while calling democracy an ambitious but fragile system that depends on active participation and restraint.

According to Close, public frustration is growing and the country is beginning to “wake up” to what she sees as troubling political developments. She warned that political consequences could follow if tensions continue to rise.

As with many celebrity political statements, Close’s remarks quickly sparked backlash and debate online, with critics questioning the role of Hollywood elites weighing in on law enforcement, immigration, and national policy — particularly from abroad.
